0Saint Leo botany students build gardening beds
WHAT
This semester, 20 botany students built gardening beds and planted a spring vegetable garden. Tomatoes, eggplants, beans, onions, potatoes, and garlic were some of the items students planted this semester using the gardening beds and greenhouse by DeChantal Hall.
WHY
This was to teach students botany (the study of plants) by having them interact with plants directly and helping them learn by doing. This promoted what is regarded as active learning as a substitute for solely conducting lab exercises.
IMPACT
This exercise gives students a direct and practical experience with plants by growing them from seed and cultivating them.
