Celebrate newest members of sociology honor society, hear guest speaker March 23

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the induction ceremony for Alpha Kappa Delta – International Sociology Honor Society, at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 23. The community can help celebrate the new members of this prestigious organization!

The event will be held in Selby Auditorium in Lewis Hall at University Campus and online via Zoom.

Guest speaker for this event will be Dr. Michael Armato, whose talk will be Who’s the Man?: Institutional Hierarchies & the Reproduction of Inequality.

A nationally known expert on masculinity, Armato is a faculty member at the University of Central Florida. He is the co-author of Investigating Gender: Developing a Feminist Sociological Imagination, the textbook used in SOC 334 – The Sociology of Sex and Gender, a Saint Leo University sociology course offered at University Campus during Spring Semester 2023. Armato’s research interests include the intersections of gender, power, and violence. 

Membership in Alpha Kappa Delta is open to University Campus and WorldWide students. “Founded in 1920 at the University of Southern California, Alpha Kappa Delta seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in the scholarship in the study of social problems, sociology, and intellectual activities that lead to the improvement in the human condition,” its website states.
