Saint Leo launches Social Impact Competition
Saint Leo University’s social impact competition, What Matters on Mane Street, is officially open for entries during the month of April. This new competition, made possible through lead funding from The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, is set up with unique categories for students, alumni, faculty, and staff. The competition challenges participants to create innovative ideas and solutions that have powerful potential for social, environmental, or economic impact. Faculty and staff can also submit existing university programs and courses that already are addressing challenges, locally or globally.
“Solving our communities’ stickiest challenges and addressing the world’s wicked problems takes innovation, intellect, and commitment,” said Dr. Mark Gesner, vice president of Community Engagement & Innovation. “This competition is a call to action for members of our university to demonstrate how they lead with their values and inventive thinking to strengthen local and global communities. Together, we are putting a spotlight on who we are at Saint Leo and the distinctive ways we strive to make a difference.”
The deadline to submit entries is May 2, and competition finalists will be announced in early May. Students and alumni who compete will have a chance to win cash and prizes valued at more than $10,000. Faculty and staff who win in their category will receive cash to help toward implementing their programs.
