Applause

Applause, a monthly feature, celebrates the successes of Saint Leo University faculty and staff. If you would like to submit an accomplishment, please send details to news@saintleo.edu. Highlights may include external leadership appointments, awards, and notable presentation opportunities.

An article by Dr. Joanne Crossman, “Strategies for Introducing Health Literacy Education Using Fundamental, Case-based, and Simulated Learning Experiences in Undergraduate Health Education,” was published in the November/December edition of the American Journal of Health Education. Crossman is a professor in the College of Education and Social Services.

Dr. Kathryn Duncan, professor of English, is the author of Jane Austen and the Buddha: Teachers of Enlightenment, a work of literary criticism recently released by McFarland Books. Duncan was inspired by a realization that the popular English novelist Jane Austen and the religious teacher and thinker had ideas in common about human nature and happiness.

Dr. Thomas Humphries Jr., has been asked to assist the Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg in its preparations for the 2023 Ordinary Synod. This process of preparing for this meeting of Catholic bishops started at the individual diocese level this year and will eventually lead to a large meeting in 2023 (called the “Synod on Synodality”). Humphries, an associate professor of theology, gave a presentation within the diocese on Advent and the Synod earlier this month and will give another presentation in January 2022.

Dr. Pamela Chandler Lee was the speaker at the Veterans Day observance at Old Dominion University in Virginia. Lee, who directs the Master of Business Administration program, earned her master’s at Old Dominion and is a U.S. Navy veteran.
