GoldRush Dance Team wins division, earns bid for national competition
Saint Leo’s GoldRush Dance Team recently earned a bid to a national competition! The GoldRush Dancers competed in the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Summer Camp, August 9-11, at Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL. The Saint Leo team placed first in Division 2 and received a bid to the national contest, which will be held April 6-10, 2022, in Daytona Beach, FL.
In addition, the team earned an excellent rating during the team’s final dance showcase at the end of camp. “The ladies and gentlemen displayed major improvements in the jazz, pom [pompom], and hip-hop routine,” said Kimesha Norris, director for the GoldRush Dance Team and student spirit section. Norris also is the assistant director of Residence Life for Housing Operations.
Two GoldRush Dance Team members were named All-Americans. Yerika Gonzalez and Hailey Andre competed with other members of the team, displaying the team dance and dance techniques, Norris said. As All-Americans, Gonzalez and Andre are invited to participate at special NDA events across the country, and received All-American NDA gear.
GoldRush Dance Team members are: Hailey Andre, captain; Adam Khay; Angelica Molina; Audrey Ang; Cherish Pennerman; Geossica Madden; Gianna Bimonte; Maura Williams; Kenrinique Morris; Molly Donlon; Myah Palmer, captain; Nicholae Robinson; Nyhia Myrick; Olivia Betancourt; Savannah Johnson; Stephanie Valles; Timiah Forbes, co-captain; Yerika Gonzalez, co-captain; Shai Gray; Sole Gray; Ivannay Hinds; Jacqaise Anselm; Aniyah Miller; Melissa Morales; Franchelle Lundy; and, Natalia Dixon.
Managers are Angel Butler, Damion Drackett, Gabriella Roman, and Cornelius Clyde. Nakera Spencer is the assistant coach.
“GoldRush is excited for the upcoming year as we prepare for various campus activities and games,” Norris said. “The dancers are excited about dancing at basketball events again and looking to add a different sport to entertain as well. The dancers are also preparing for nationals in April.”
