Saint Leo celebrates Community Day on January 3
On January 3, faculty and staff from across the university joined together for Saint Leo University’s spring Community Day. It is a time to celebrate the people who have served our university and also prepare for the spring term.
As has been the tradition, Community Day started with the presentation of core values awards. One award is given for each core value to a deserving faculty or staff member. The recipients of this year’s recognition included:
- Excellence: Pamela DeCius
- Integrity: Lance Randall
- Personal Development: Kimesha Norris
- Community: Karen Hatfield
- Respect: Michael Bailey
- Stewardship: Dawn Boltin
Following the core value awards, staff were celebrated for 5, 10, 20, 25, and 30 years of service.

Melinda McKendree is recognized for 20 years of service.
Michael Moorman is recognized for 30 years of service.
Pamela DeCius receives the values award for excellence.
Kimesha Norris receives the values award for personal development.
Michael Bailey receives the values award for respect.
Lance Randall receives the values award for integrity.
Then President Senese presented on the state of the university. He shared his proposal for what he called the university’s New Year’s resolutions:
- Leave the past in the past.
- Forgive and forgive.
- Assume that others have good intentions
- Communicate and engage.
He also spoke about what the future of higher education will look like. Competition in the higher education landscape will only increase. Most other universities are looking to grow by exploring alternative delivery methods and new markets. Saint Leo’s strategy for growth needs to involve approaches that consider people, policies, programs, processes, and places.
