Women’s History Month focuses on ‘Exceptions are the Rule,’ at Atlanta Center with VTT to Chesapeake, Newport News

Encouraging others to use their talents and embrace their uniqueness will be the topic as Saint Leo University celebrates Women’s HERstory with a special presentation from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, at the Atlanta Education Center.

The College of Arts and Sciences will welcome Bianca Keaton, the new chair of the Gwinnett County (GA) Democratic Party. Keaton is the first African-American woman to hold this position. As part of Women’s History Month, Keaton’s talk will be “Exceptions are the Rule.” 

Keaton will discuss how most people are “nontraditional” in some way, and “she is very excited to bring this message to the ‘nontraditional student’ audience at Saint Leo to inspire them,” said Dr. Eileen O’Brien, professor of sociology. 

The talk will be at the Saint Leo University Atlanta Education Center, 2450 Piedmont Road N.E. Suite 200, Atlanta, 30324, in the Lindbergh City Center. 

In addition to students and alumni, the public is invited to this free event and refreshments will be served. 

The presentation also will be available through Video Teaching and Teleconferencing (VTT) at the following locations in Virginia.

Keaton won the seat as chair of the Gwinnett County Democratic Party in January and now represents a county known for being one of the most diverse in the region. She worked as a congressional aide to Rep. Cedric Richmond and Rep. Bob Brady in Washington, DC, prior to moving to Gwinnett County. She served as an assistant to Cobb County (GA) Commissioner Lisa Cupid before being elected chair of Gwinnett Democrats, and she worked on Stacey Abram’s gubernatorial campaign.
