The Saint Leo community joined in viewing the artworks of students who participated in the summer Prodigy® Cultural Arts program on August 3. The program and art show, Prodigy Moves, were presented by the Department of Language Studies and the Arts.
Prodigy is sponsored by the University Area Community Development Corp. (CDC) and the State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. The program uses visual arts to help youths build life skills including communication, leadership, goal setting, and problem-solving skills.
Each art class is conducted by a professional artist who serves as a mentor and teacher. This summer’s Prodigy Art Camp ran from May to the end of July, included painting and pottery classes, and concluded with a final showcase.
Fall Prodigy classes began August 11 at Saint Leo. Classes for youths ages 5 – 8 and 9 – 13 take place on Wednesday and Friday with Wednesdays being devoted to clay work and Fridays to studio art. For information, contact Fignole Desir, fdesir@uacdc.org, or (813) 558-5212, Ext. 502.
