0Saint Leo offering new micro-credential in creative writing in July
Do you want to explore your love of the literary arts? Beginning in July, Saint Leo University will offer a creative writing micro-credential that will be open to anyone who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in any subject or from any university or college, who loves to write.
This includes graduates of Saint Leo’s Master of Arts in creative writing or other creative writing programs.
“This is an opportunity for enrichment seekers of any age and experience, who are not currently enrolled in our MA, to participate in the program’s annual weeklong summer residency alongside graduate students with a focus on your personal development and passion for writing,” said Dr. Anne Barngrover, director of Saint Leo’s low-residency master’s program.
This year, the summer residency is 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, July 8, through Friday, July 14 and held in person at Saint Leo’s campus, 33701 County Road 52 (formerly State Road 52), St. Leo, FL 33544.
The residency is an immersive and community-oriented retreat with daily morning workshops, afternoon craft talks led by distinguished visiting writers, and opportunities to share and receive feedback on writing-in-progress.
Students will submit original creative writing in either fiction, creative nonfiction, or poetry for a small workshop group; however, throughout the week they will learn about all three genres, as well as the editing and publishing world of creative writing, Barngrover said.
If interested in participating and to find out more about the requirements and cost, email anne.barngrover@saintleo.edu. The deadline to enroll in the micro-credential program is Friday, June 30.
