Fran Reidy, vice president and director of Intercollegiate Athletics, who is retiring after more than 35 years at Saint Leo, was one of the nominees for The Leadership Playbook 2022-2023 Administrator of the Year. The award honors “individuals in leadership positions who strive to develop other leaders, make people and situations better, and provide a positive example for those they influence.”
Dr. Anthony DeSantis, associate vice president of Student Affairs, is a member of the 2024 Leadership Pasco cohort. Since 1991, the mission of Leadership Pasco is to identify and recruit current or potential leaders of Pasco County, facilitate the development and interaction of those leaders, and to foster an issues-oriented learning environment for these leaders and the citizens of Pasco County (FL) in order to encourage an exchange of ideas and generate enthusiasm for community growth and development.
Rabbi David Maayan, the Maurice and Douglas Cohn Visiting Chair in Jewish Thought and assistant director of Saint Leo’s Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies, recently had a column, Open My Eyes to Your Wonders, featured on Patheos.com. Patheos is a nondenominational, nonpartisan online media company that shares information and commentary from various perspectives. The column may be viewed here. It also was shared by other news media outlets.
Frank Orlando, political science faculty member, was called upon by several news outlets to discuss the announcement that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is entering the 2024 presidential race and the possible strategies and issues likely to shape the campaign. He was interviewed by Steven Mort of WUCF-TV for the Newsnight program, Ron DeSantis Enters the 2024 Presidential Race, which aired June 2. Orlando also was interviewed by Sarasota Herald-Tribune reporter Zac Anderson about how DeSantis will deal with former President Donald Trump’s attacks during their race for the Republican nomination. The story was featured in numerous Florida publications.
Dr. Delmar Wright, associate professor criminal justice, recently celebrated his 20th anniversary as pastor of Greater Victory Christian Church in Powhatan, VA.
Dr. Joseph Cillo, assistant professor of criminal justice, offered his expertise and insight to WFLA-TV, News Channel 8, for a story about an arrest in a cold case murder that happened nearly 40 years ago. WFLA and sister TV station, WTTA-TV, Great 38, aired the broadcast several times. View the story and video here.
Dr. Georgina Rivera-Singletary, associate professor of graduate education, completed the 2023 Leadership Pasco cohort in May. Rivera-Singletary teaches online and her programs include educational leadership, instructional leadership, and exceptional student education.
