Men’s tennis wins Indoor National Championship
WHAT
The men’s tennis team captured the 2023 ITA National Indoor National Championship on February 19 defeating host University of Indianapolis in the final 4-1. Saint Leo entered the tournament as the No3 seed and the No. 3 team in the nation. Martin Soukal was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player while both Vincent Thiel and Luis Iriarte were named to the All-Tournament Team.
WHO
The men’s tennis team led by head coach Chad Berryhill and assistant coach, Matt Alexander. Those competing at the tournament were Ivan Marrero, Tao Castillo, Ghali Mensour, Nicolas Bacella, Vincent Thiel, Martin Soukal, Luis Iriarte, and Henrique Bertoli. The team is also comprised of Stijn de Lange, Loup Sudre, Federico Pieckenstainer, and Kodai Kato.
WHY
The top eight teams in the country were invited to play in the ITA National Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
IMPACT
This is the men’s tennis team’s first National Championship and the second team National Championship in Saint Leo history.
