University Ministry observes solemnity of All Saints, bids farewell to Father Randall

Much of the world knows October 31 as Halloween, an evening celebrated with candy and costumes. But the day was originally “All Hallows Eve,” the vigil of All Saints Day (a holy day of obligation for Catholics).

Saint Leo University students gathered at the Abbey Church to celebrate the solemn vigil Mass for the solemnity of All Saints. Students also wished their chaplain, Father Randall Meissen, farewell as he moves to a new assignment.

In the homily, Father Randall reminded attendees that the call to sainthood is not just for the famous few who make it into stained glass windows and story books. Rather, everyone is called to become a saint by living each day in the love of God and neighbor.
