Human services faculty participate in Virginia community event
Drs. Amina Abdullah and Michelle Boone-Thornton recently spoke at the Southeast Community Day Parade in Newport News, VA, and represented the university and the Human Services Program. Students and alumni living in the Virginia region also attended.
The event is held in an economically disadvantage community with a large need for social welfare services. While the event looked different this year due to COVID-19, in the past students would march in the parade, distribute handouts to community members, and perform outreach with community members, while practicing their helping skills.
