0Mel Greene Institute presenting free webinar, ‘Myths and Facts: Child Sex Trafficking’
Join Saint Leo University and the Mel Greene Institute to Combat Human Trafficking at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, as they present Myths and Facts: Child Sex Trafficking, a free webinar featuring guest speaker Dr. Joan A. Reid, director of the University of South Florida Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Risk to Resilience Research Lab.
Reid received her Master of Arts degree in rehabilitation and mental health counseling and doctorate in criminology from the University of South Florida. Reid has authored more than 60 publications primarily focused on child sex trafficking in Florida. She recently was ranked the fifth most active human trafficking researcher in the world. Her work has been cited more than 2,000 times by other academics.
The real-world impact of her research is extensive, appearing as a citing authority in human trafficking cases in various State Supreme Courts and an amicus brief related to the U.S. Supreme Court case Jane Doe vs. Backpage. Reid’s research has been cited in state and federal government agency policy reports on child trafficking in Florida, California, and in national reports to the U.S. Congress.
