Center for Research hosts workshop on qualitative research

From 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, March 22, the Center for Research at Saint Leo University will host Qualitative Research: A Beginning Conversation that provides an entry-level introduction to qualitative research methods. Faculty members are invited to attend this live online workshop via Zoom, presented by Dr. Holly Atkins, chair of undergraduate education and associate professor of education, and Dr. Rhondda Waddell, associate dean of the College of Education and Social Services, and professor of social work.

Workshop Description
This workshop provides an entry-level introduction to qualitative research methods and explores:

  • How qualitative research may be conducted in the field, allowing direct interaction with the people being studied in their context.
  • Methods qualitative researchers use to collect and analyze data to examine documents, observe behavior, or interview participants.
  • How qualitative researchers often build patterns, categories and themes from the bottom up (inductive analysis).

Ready to jump-start your research projects? Join a monthly research meet-up group to discuss your project, celebrate wins, ask questions, and get help when you’re stuck. It’s all about support.

Need time/space to get that writing done? Join a weekly Pomodoro group for a 2-hour block of writing. We’ll use Teams to meet and then write for set intervals, checking back in with each other for motivation and accountability.

Stuck with your research study? We offer assistance for faculty members who could use a little feedback and help to solve a problem with their study. Seasoned researchers offer suggestions for getting your study back on track.

If you would like to join a group, host a workshop session, or request a recording link, send an email to centerforresearch@saintleo.edu. For more information, contact Dr. Lisa Rapp-McCall, director of the Center for Research, at lisa.rapp-mccall@saintleo.edu.
