Career Services launches Phase 2 of The Handshake Project

As fall classes resume, Career Services is partnering with faculty and staff to power up phase two of The Handshake Project, designed to engage all University Campus, education center, and online students in becoming career-ready.

The Handshake Project connects Saint Leo students with employers and professionals worldwide through the Handshake platform. With more than 2,000 universities and 500,000 employer partners, Handshake is the gold standard for successful job seekers. Saint Leo students with an active Handshake profile also receive a weekly newsletter that details the latest information and advice for professional development and job search activities related to their college.

As part of phase two, Career Services will launch an exciting social media campaign to encourage participation in The Handshake Project and reward students for establishing their Handshake accounts. Career Services also will be offering giveaways, including exclusive gear from Saint Leo and its employer partners. All first-term students will receive personal outreach from a member of the Career Services team to set up their Handshake account.

Partner with Career Services and Lead Students to Handshake

  • Career Services encourages all faculty and staff to establish their own Handshake account in order to appreciate the wealth of resources available to students and understand how the platform works. Email Career Services at careerservices@saintleo.edu to request your faculty/staff account.
  • Encourage and incentivize Handshake use with students in classes, meetings, and events. For faculty, as you employ your own techniques to help students become career-ready, make it a requirement for them to login and create a profile on Handshake, just as they would on LinkedIn, and encourage them to use it.
  • Show students how to find Handshake in the student tab of the Okta portal.
  • Share this instructional video to help students get started on Handshake: bit.ly/SLUHandshake.
  • As partners in The Handshake Project, faculty and staff are eligible to receive complimentary Handshake t-shirts and gear. Email careerservices@saintleo.edu and share how you helped a student engage with Handshake!
  • Look for more to come this fall, including the BE LEO GREAT campaign, offering faculty new resources to help students develop nationally recognized career competencies that are infused with the university’s core values.

Students, faculty, and staff can look forward to interacting with a reinvigorated Career Services team, offering students professional coaching, relevant learning opportunities, connections to employers, and a renewed focus on student success beyond the classroom experience.
