0Mental Health First Aid course offered to employees, October 22
Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a Mental Health First Aid course! The Total Rewards Division, a part of the Human Resources Department, is partnering with Dr. Nancy Wood, director of the Graduate Human Services Administration Program, to offer an opportunity to learn more about Mental Health First Aid to a limited number of employees.
The session is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, October 22, in the Greenfelder-Denlinger Boardrooms, located inside the Student Community Center.
Just as CPR helps assist an individual having a heart attack, mental health first aid helps assist someone experiencing a mental health-related crisis—even with no clinical training. In these Mental Health First Aid courses, participants learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns; strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and noncrisis situations; and where to turn for help.
The mental health first aid course will cover topics such as signs of mental illnesses and a five-step action plan to assess a situation and access help.
The class is free to 30 Saint Leo employees (limited participation required due to COVID-19), which includes a workbook. Participants must register by October 18. To sign up, click here.
