0Undergraduate club creates cheer for nursing home patients
Members of the BSW-Social Work Club created more than 100 greeting cards to lift the spirits of patients at a nursing home near University Campus. Nursing home patients in general have been especially isolated lately because of the novel coronavirus.
To keep patients as safe as possible from potential sources of infection, facilities have had to tell patients’ family members and friends that they cannot visit their loved ones during this time. But Saint Leo students studying for their bachelor’s in social work and who are members of the club were able to create cards from their own locations as a community outreach project.
They mailed their cards to club advisor Dr. Veronika Ospina-Kammerer, who delivered the greetings during the week of May 18 to Heritage Park Health and Rehabilitation Center, a Dade City, FL, facility, for distribution to residents.
