0Center staffers volunteer at Hampton VA Medical Center
Saint Leo University representatives from the Virginia Peninsula education centers came out to support a recent indoor carnival held by the Hampton VA Medical Center for veterans in its care. More than 80 veterans attended, representing all branches of the services. They spanned the generations from those who served in World War II to our contemporary era.
Volunteers worked at different stations in the carnival where veterans could “win” much-needed items, such as socks, blankets, toiletries, shower shoes, snacks, and more.
Saint Leo Associate Director of Military Affairs Mark Westbrook worked with Monique Harris from Veterans Affairs to organize the event. Like all medical facilities, the Departments of Veterans Affairs hospitals, nursing homes and clinics need volunteers steadily to carry out a wide range of duties. Saint Leo University representatives at this particular volunteer opportunity were from the university’s Virginia locations at Fort Eustis, Langley, and Newport News.
