Holy Week schedule at University Campus, Abbey Church, Holy Name Monastery

The Saint Leo community is invited to Holy Week observances at University Campus, the Abbey Church, and Holy Name Monastery. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday—also known as Passion Sunday—which is April 14 this year.

University Ministry will lead a Palm Sunday procession from Saint Jude Chapel at the Student Activities Building to the Abbey Church at 7 p.m., April 14, and the student Mass will follow. Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, when the crowd waved palm branches.

On Tuesday, April 16, University Ministry is welcoming the university community to attend the chrism Mass at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle in St. Petersburg. A university van will transport students at 9:30 a.m. to the Mass. Contact University Ministry at (352) 588-8292.

The summit of the liturgical year is the Easter triduum—from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding the unity of Christ’s paschal mystery.

The single celebration of the triduum marks the end of the Lenten season, and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.

All are welcome to attend the following.
