0Gwinnett Education Center offering mental health first aid course
Faculty and staff are encouraged to invite community members to attend a mental health first aid course. The Gwinnett Education Center and Saint Leo’s Human Services Department are partnering to offer an opportunity to learn more about mental health first aid.
The session is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, at 3555 Koger Blvd. Clarkston Suite 105, Duluth, GA.
Just as CPR helps assist an individual having a heart attack, mental health first aid helps assist someone experiencing a mental-health-related crisis—even if you have no clinical training. In these mental health first aid courses, participants learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.
The mental health first aid course will cover topics such as signs of mental illnesses and a five-step action plan to assess a situation and access help.
The registration fee is $25 includes a workbook. To register for the course, click here.
