Saint Leo welcomes in vice president of Student Affairs

After a nationwide search, Saint Leo University is pleased to welcome Dr. Jen Day Shaw as vice president of Student Affairs effective Friday, January 4.

In her role, Dr. Shaw will oversee all student affairs departments, which include Dining Services, Student Activities, Counseling Services, Health and Wellness, Campus Life, Career Services, Military and Veterans Affairs, and Accessibility Services. She will report directly to Dr. Melanie Storms, senior vice president.

Dr. Shaw brings 25 years of experience in higher education to the position, serving in a variety of student affairs leadership positions. She most recently served as associate vice president and dean of students at the University of Florida in Gainesville. There she oversaw the dean of students office, the office of student conduct and conflict resolution, the disability resource center, the care area, new student and family programs, the collegiate veterans success center, career resource center, and student activities and involvement.

Prior to the University of Florida, Dr. Shaw held similar positions at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro; Davidson County Community College in Lexington, NC; the University of South Florida in Tampa; and the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia.

Dr. Shaw received her PhD in higher education from Florida State University; her master’s degree in college student personnel services from Miami University in Oxford, OH; and bachelor’s degree in political science from Transylvania University in Lexington, KY.  She has been married to her husband Andy for 24 years. Their daughter Libby is a junior at the University of Florida, and son Jack is a senior in high school.
