Nurture your spirit during Wellness Week, September 10 – 14

Wellness Week will take place from Monday, September 10, to Friday, September 14. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to take part in different events throughout the week. These events include the chance to make your own terrarium, enjoy a lakefront bonfire, and participate in Tell Me About Your Day.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, students, faculty, and staff are invited to make their own terrarium on the Kirk Hall Green. Research shows that people who regularly spend time around plants and nature are healthier, both physically and mentally. Terrariums are living decor, bringing life, meaning, and beauty to a person’s environment. Individuals are invited to create a terrarium that represents what nurtures them. They can take home a landscape reminder of what sustains, nurtures, and brings meaning to their life. Glass containers, sea glass/beach stones, potting mix, plants, and directions for taking care of the terrarium will all be provided while supplies last.

“Return Home” is the theme for a lakeside bonfire set for 7:22 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, at the lakefront by Lake Jovita. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to release whatever is on their mind or heart. Enjoy coffee, live music, and a lakefront bonfire while focusing on forgiveness. Father Kyle Smith will be available to hear confessions and staff from Counseling Services will be there if individuals would like to talk. People of all faiths are welcome to attend and enjoy reflection and fellowship by the lake.

Students, faculty, and staff can “Tell Me About Your Day” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 12. Show someone you care!  This initiative (TMAYD) was inspired as a response to the tragedy of suicide, but the message spreads to everyone, no matter what they are going through. TMAYD lets people know that you would be there to talk with them and serves as a conversation starter. The conversations can be about anything – good, bad, embarrassing, or funny. Wearing the Tell Me About Your Day bracelet or t-shirt serves as a gentle reminder to talk about your day and ask someone about theirs.

This initiative can be found on the Daniel A. Cannon Memorial Library patio and is co-sponsored by Counseling Services and the Cannon Memorial Library.
