Saint Leo earns StormReady designation
With hurricane season beginning June 1, Saint Leo University already has taken steps to prepare for weather emergencies. The university recently earned the StormReady® designation from the National Weather Service (NWS).
“As a result of your efforts, Saint Leo University is better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of hazardous weather through better planning, education, and awareness,” stated Daniel Noah, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service-Tampa Bay Area, in a letter to Cyrus Brown, executive director of University Public Safety. “No university is stormproof, but StormReady® can save lives.”
Saint Leo is one of 19 universities and colleges in Florida designated as StormReady®, meaning the university has met criteria set by the National Weather Service. Saint Leo officials have created form emergency plans to help keep students, faculty, and staff safe in the event of a weather emergency. The designation is in effect through February 15, 2020, according to the NWS.
