0Inspirational speaker for K-12 teachers — January 27
Interested faculty, Saint Leo students considering teaching careers, K-12 educators, and others are all invited to a presentation by Dave Burgess, author and creator of the “Teach Like a Pirate” concept. He will speak at 5 p.m., Friday, January 27, in the Greenfelder-Denlinger Boardrooms of the Student Community Center. His presentation is part of the University Speaker Series, as well as the keynote for the Florida Association of Teacher Educators conference, which is being hosted at University Campus. (The speaker event and conference were scheduled for October 2016, but had to be postponed because of Hurricane Matthew.) Admission is free for all, and the general public is welcome.
Burgess is a nationally recognized high school teacher who will share techniques for being more creative in planning lessons, increasing student engagement, and overcoming obstacles that can emerge in the classroom. He uses the phrase “Teach Like a PIRATE,” a memory prompt for: passion, immersion, rapport, ask and analyze, transformation, and enthusiasm.
