Presidential mock debate, election set for November 7

With a contentious presidential election playing out in “real life,” Saint Leo students are participating in the Fall 2016 Alternate Reality Learning Experience, “The Presidency.”

Students from various disciplines have created campaigns for a mock presidential election. From the candidates, to the campaign managers, to the news media, to the party chairmen, students are playing various roles while learning what is involved in a campaign.

Will the mock debate be a predictor for the real national campaigns currently being run? Everyone is invited to find out. The mock presidential debate and election will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, November 7, in the Student Community Center boardrooms. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Democratic candidates are Marcus Howard (Leandrous Chieves) for president and Angela Johnson (Sophie Metellus) for vice president. Paul Raymond Friedman (Mark Saunders) is the Republican presidential candidate, and Caterina Castillo (Amanda Miceli) is his vice presidential running mate. Check out the Presidency website to learn more about the candidates and their platforms.

Last year was the first year for “The Presidency” ARLE project, and more than 200 people attended the final debate and election. For information about this year’s event, contact Dr. Jeff Borden at jeff.borden@saintleo.edu.
