Important announcement from University Technology Services

University Technology Services (UTS)  launched a new initiative to enhance information security and responsible stewardship on Thursday, September 22. Every other Thursday at 2 a.m. university issued workstations (laptop or desktop) will be prompted to be rebooted. The new initiative will enable UTS to push software patches required for desktop support and information security enhancements. This will bring the university into audit compliance. It also will increase environmental responsibility by reducing power usage requirements for a few hours each month.

How does this impact me?

University employees with university issued workstations will be asked to prepare their work station for shutdown as they leave work on Wednesday evening:

  • All documents, work, and applications should be saved and closed.
  • Any reports or processes that run overnight should be rescheduled and closed.
  • Please be sure to lock your workstation before leaving for the day.
  • Please DO NOT shut down your work station before leaving for the day.
UTS will continue to communicate about this initiative as the launch date approaches. Please be sure to mark your calendar with reminders, and if you have any questions, please contact (352) 588-8888.
