Focus the Nation guest speaker to discuss Pope Francis and water ethics on March 3

The School of Arts and Sciences will present “Focus the Nation,” a program on environmental and social justice, in a streamlined, early-evening format this year with no changes to the daytime class schedule. Programming begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 3, in TECO Hall, in the School of Business building, with a brief performance by the Just the FACTS choral group. A 30-minute keynote address from religious studies professor Kevin Ahern, PhD, of Manhattan College, will follow. The title of Dr. Ahern’s talk is “Let Justice Roll Down Like Water: Pope Francis and Water Ethics.

A reception will be held in the atrium after Dr. Ahern’s talk. Poster presentations by students and faculty on the related themes of social and environmental justice are being accepted for display during that time, and should go to Dr. Randall Woodard, chair of the Department of Philosophy, Theology, and Religion. Poster presentations developed this semester for other events are welcome as long as they pertain to environmental and social justice themes.

To submit posters for consideration, contact Dr. Randall Woodard at (352) 588-8239 or randall.woodard@saintleo.edu. For more information on other event details, contact Jennifer “Megan” Orendorf of the School of Arts and Sciences at jennifer.orendorf@saintleo.edu or (352) 588-8401.
