Saint Leo to host NCAA Division II cross country national championship this Saturday
Saint Leo University will welcome nearly 80 schools from across the United States – as well as Simon Fraser University, the only NCAA member institution from Canada – as it hosts the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships this Saturday, November 19. The men’s 10K championship will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women’s 6K championship at 9:45 a.m. Both races will take place at The Abbey Course, across State Road 52 from Saint Leo’s University Campus. Saint Leo Athletics still has a critical need for volunteers to assist with hosting the championships, particularly as course marshals on Saturday morning. Rampf named USTFCCCA South Region Athlete of the Year; Reiber named Coach of the Year
Saint Leo junior Colett Rampf was tabbed as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) women’s South Region Athlete of the Year for her performance in the NCAA South Region championship. Lions head coach Kent Reiber was similarly honored as the association’s South Region women’s Coach of the Year. Read the complete release.
Dewberry breaks 1,000 points vs. North Alabama
Men’s basketball senior Marcus Dewberry cracked the 1,000-career-points mark on Sunday, with 35 points in Saint Leo’s clash with North Alabama on day two of the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Challenge Classic in Florence, AL. The Lions ended up dropping the contest with North Alabama, 101-96. Read the complete release.
Women’s basketball earns first win of the season
The Saint Leo women’s basketball team took down Shorter University in the second game of the Sunshine State Conference/Gulf South Conference Challenge, 72-64, in their 2016-17 home opener. Junior Mary Redmond sunk eight three-point field goals to break the Saint Leo single-game record. She connected on eight of her 12 attempts and added a lay-up to finish with a team-high 26 points. This marks the first win for Head Coach Anthony Crocitto as the Lions’ head coach. Read the complete release.
Women’s hoops to host “Drop-n-Shop” events
Saint Leo women’s basketball will be holding a pair of “Drop-n-Shop” kids camps on November 25 and December 11, providing some activities for kids while their parents do some holiday shopping. Read the complete release.
