0Saint Leo hosts Social Impact Roundtable on February 16
Saint Leo University is inviting area innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, and members of the university community to attend an engaging discussion on the topics of social and economic impact. The Social Impact Roundtable will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, on Wednesday, February 16, in TECO Hall.
Social entrepreneurism is a strategy practiced by both for-profit and nonprofit innovators to develop mission-driven ventures, products and services, and solutions with the goal of having a positive measurable impact on society. Those who are successful in applying the principles of social entrepreneurship often find ingenious ways of balancing “mission and margin” so that they can employ financially sustainable ways to support the greater good.
“Saint Leo is extraordinarily well positioned to play a distinct and substantive role in supporting the growth of social entrepreneurism,” said Dr. Mark Gesner, vice president of community engagement and innovation. “Our university’s core values not only strongly align with the principles and practices of social entrepreneurs, but our Catholic Benedictine mission and vision compel us to play a leadership role in growing this dynamic approach to community and economic development.”
The roundtable discussion will include opening remarks from social entrepreneur and guest igniter Alexis C. Bell, founder and CEO of Fraud Doctor LLC, followed by a roundtable discussion on the topics of social and economic impact. For the first half hour of the event, community attendees will also receive a tour of University Campus. Dr. Gesner noted that the roundtable is a first step of a larger university strategy that will include programs, professional development opportunities, and thought leadership in the social entrepreneurship realm.
The Social Impact Roundtable is being hosted by Saint Leo in partnership with many area organizations, including the SmartStart Pasco Enterprise Network, the Hillsborough County Entrepreneur Collaborative Center, the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council, the Nonprofit Collaborative, Florida for Good, and Basil Data.
The Social Impact Roundtables are free and open to all but reservations are required to attend as space is limited. To RSVP or request special accommodations, please send your full name to Mehak Arora at mehak.arora@saintleo.edu.
