Successful ‘Kirkchella’ opens academic year with music, prayer

Saint Leo University Ministry was joined by about 150 students, employees, and guests on September 9 for “Kirkchella,” its annual coffeehouse and musical event. After last year’s Kirkchella was canceled, it was a welcome event at University Campus. It took place outside of the Student Activities Building and Saint Jude Chapel, adjacent to the Kirk Hall Green, for which it is named.
The opening act for the event was Saint Leo’s own Lucas Nocera, who serves as the university’s music minster. The special guest singer and musician was Father John Klein, LC, who serves the Catholic Center at Georgia Tech University. His popular contemporary Catholic-Christian music can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
“This was a great, first big event on campus,” said Father Randall Meissen, LC, university chaplain. “It was amazing to see the campus alive again with many new faces, all sharing the beauty of music and making a joyful noise for the Lord.”
Nocera said the event provided opportunities for conversations and joining in a sense of community. “And when Father [Klein] came up to sing, he engaged the crowd, and got them singing, dancing, and laughing.”
The next big event for University Ministry will be the fall retreat, set for October 22-24. Students may sign up at ministry.saintleo.edu.
