Sunshine State Conference spring preseason polls unveiled
Saint Leo’s spring sports teams open their 2017 seasons starting this week, with baseball, softball, and men’s lacrosse all beginning play and women’s golf resuming competition. The Sunshine State Conference began unveiling its spring preseason polls, with several Saint Leo teams predicted to finish among the top third of the league:
– Softball picked to repeat as SSC champions
– Men’s tennis tabbed for third in SSC preseason ranking
– Women’s tennis slotted third in SSC preseason poll

Softball picked No. 17 in NFCA preseason rankings
Saint Leo softball will open its 2017 campaign among the top Division II programs in the nation, after the Lions were ranked 17 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) preseason ranking. Read the complete release
Dewberry named SSC Men’s Hoops Player of the Week
For the second time this season, Saint Leo senior Marcus Dewberry has been tabbed as the SSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, after averaging 27.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in the Lions’ victories over Florida Tech and Embry-Riddle. Read the complete release
Swim teams earn CSCAA Scholar All-America team honors
Both the Saint Leo men’s and women’s swim teams earn CSCAA academic honors for having a 3.00-or-better team GPA in the Fall 2016 semester. Read the complete release
Mata named to NCBWA Preseason All-South Region team
Saint Leo senior Alex Mata was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-South Region team. Mata, a consensus All-South Region pick and All-SSC selection a year ago, is coming off a season in which he batted .388 with 23 doubles and 55 RBI for the Lions. Read the complete release
