Cross country teams each claim an All-American at NCAA championship
The Saint Leo men’s and women’s cross country teams each added an All-American to their honor rolls on Saturday at the 2016 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships.
Men’s cross country senior Rafal Matuszczak became the program’s first All-America honoree after finishing 39th overall with a time of 31:19.5 on the 10K course. He led the Lions to a 27th-place finish on the team leaderboard.
Women’s cross country junior Colett Rampf took All-America honors for the second consecutive season, after crossing the finish line in 14th place with a time of 20:57.7 in the 6K event. Volleyball is NCAA-bound after clinching SSC Championship
Saint Leo women’s volleyball claimed the program’s second Sunshine State Conference Championship on Friday evening with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-22) win over Nova Southeastern. The Lions only other SSC crown came back in 2009.
Saint Leo, recipients of the SSC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship, will learn their first opponent in the South Region tournament during the NCAA’s selection announcement on Monday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. The Lions and their coaches will gather at Beef O’Brady’s in Dade City to watch the NCAA tournament selections; fans are invited to join the team at Beef O’Brady’s and share in the excitement! Softball announces 2017 slate
Saint Leo softball unveiled its 2017 schedule last week, with 17 home contests highlighting the Lions’ pursuit of a second Sunshine State Conference title. Read the complete release.
Three women’s soccer players named All-South Region
Three Saint Leo women’s soccer players picked up some post-season honors last week, as seniors Arielle Kabangu, Selena Jaimes, and Gen Gignac were all named to the Division 2 Collegiate Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-South Region team. Read the complete release.
Dewberry named SSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Saint Leo senior guard Marcus Dewberry was tabbed with Sunshine State Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors last Monday, after back-to-back 30-point performances at the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Challenge Classic in Florence, Ala. Dewberry’s 65 points over the two games also put him over the 1,000-point mark for his career, becoming the 23rd Saint Leo player to achieve the feat. Read the complete release.
Women’s hoops to host “Drop-n-Shop” events
Saint Leo women’s basketball will be holding a pair of “Drop-n-Shop” kids camps on November 25 and December 11, providing some activities for kids while their parents do some holiday shopping. Read the complete release.
