Congratulations to Leadership Saint Leo Class of 2022
Congratulations to the 16th cohort of Leadership Saint Leo, who graduated from the program on December 9. Leadership Saint Leo began in 2005 to expand leadership capacity, build culture, and create a common leadership lexicon across the university, including its education centers and online offices.
Approximately 85 of our active leaders have graduated from the program, having met every month for 10 months for an all-day workshop that incorporates a variety of lecture, discussion, case study, and experiential activities.
The capstone experience of Leadership Saint Leo is a presentation of each member’s leader point of view. This is a highly personal expression of the participant’s identity as a leader and governs how they lead.
Members presented analogies for leadership that spoke to them personally. For example, leadership is a greenhouse that nourishes and protects what’s inside, or leadership is the burning engine of a hot air balloon that lifts a team or a project to great heights.
Members also sought out their leader point of view in their own experiences and personalities, recognizing that leadership comes from unconventional people and positions. A softball catcher has the best view of the field and signals to the other players to enact their talents. A personality that is rational and steady can ground the visionaries often touted as leaders.
While the leadership point of views were presented creatively (the “constitution” was actually in scroll form, and another participant created a webpage accessed via QR code), they conveyed certain truths of leadership. A leader must run right next to those they lead, lift as they climb, look through all different angles of the prism, and find a way when there seemingly is no way.
