Bloodborne Pathogens training required for select departments
Saint Leo University is releasing its updated Bloodborne Pathogens Training on Monday, February 13, which incorporates the university’s updated bloodborne pathogens control policy.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires completion of the Bloodborne Pathogens training no less than annually for employees the university has identified with occupational exposure. For the university to maintain compliance with OSHA requirements, completion of this training is mandatory and will be monitored. Training needs to be completed by Friday, March 24, 2023.
Employees in the following job classifications are assigned the Bloodborne Pathogens Training:
• Athletic Division including Wellness Center staff*
• Dining Services staff*
• Health Center staff*
• Lab faculty members or assistants
• Residence Life staff*
• University Safety staff*
• Facilities Management staff**
- *Staff includes coaches, trainers, staff, students, and others as required or requested by the department manager.
- **Facilities staff receive and complete a different Bloodborne Pathogens training on an annual basis that includes containment, clean up, decontamination, and disposal processes.
After completion of the training, Human Resources personnel will follow up with employees to complete and return the Hepatitis B vaccination election form. If the employee elects to receive the vaccine, Human Resources personnel will contact the employee to receive the vaccine at no cost. Cooperation with this requirement helps the university create a safe and healthy working and learning environment.
