Key West Education Center collecting rain gear for homeless

Saint Leo University’s Key West Education Center is lending a hand to those in need this summer. As the rainy season is here, Saint Leo University-Key West is collecting umbrellas, rain ponchos, and boots for the area’s homeless.

Cornerstone Resource Alliance’s Keys Overnight Temporary Shelter (KOTS) provides temporary overnight shelter and showers for 150 people each night. During the day, they are vulnerable to the Keys’ varying weather conditions, so Saint Leo University is partnering with KOTS to provide them with necessary rain gear.

Community donations are welcome, and umbrellas, ponchos, and boots may be dropped off beginning July 5 at Saint Leo University’s Key West Education Center at Naval Air Station Key West, A-718 Essex Circle, Key West, FL 33040. For those without access to the base, contact jeffrey.hite@saintleo.edu to arrange a collection. Donations will be accepted at Saint Leo until August 31.

For more information, email Jeff Hite, interim Key West Education Center director, jeffrey.hite@saintleo.edu, or (305) 293-2847. He also may be reached at Ext. 3621.
