Debut winners of Kurt Wilt Prize for Student Writing announced

The Department of Creative Writing and Sandhill Review are celebrating the debut winners of the Kurt Wilt Prize for Student Writing.

Congratulations to Sarah El Naamani (poetry), Gracie Elizabeth Swind (fiction), and Christian Farrior (nonfiction). The winning works were selected by Dr. Patrick Crerand, Dr. Anne Barngrover, and Gianna Russo. The 2020 edition of Sandhill Review will showcase the writing of these talented students. This year’s theme is “belonging.”

Dr. Kurt Wilt taught creative writing at Saint Leo for more than 35 years, up until just weeks before his death in 2016. Besides welcoming thousands of students into the community of writers, he founded Sandhill Review and wrote the words to the university’s alma mater, creating a musical, poetic source of belonging for us all
