Paws of Love to present leashes to Pasco County Animal Services

The Saint Leo community is invited to celebrate the completion of one of the missions of Paws of Love at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, in Room 117 of the Student Activities Building. Paws of Love is a nonprofit organization founded last year at Saint Leo University to support sheltered, rescued, and service animals.

On Tuesday, Paws of Love volunteers and Saint Leo University officials will present Pasco County Animal Services with 135 lasso leashes purchased for the animal shelter. Director Mike Shumate and Assistant Director Spencer Conover along with an “office dog” from the animal shelter will attend the presentation to receive the donation. The lasso leashes allow more dogs to be exercised at the same time, enabling each dog to receive time outdoors.

Paws of Love helps two rescue services and two shelters: The Humane Society of Pasco (County), Pasco County (FL) Animal Services, DC Dogos; and Destiny for Dogs. The organization completes its mission through fundraising, volunteering, and creating pet toys out of recycled materials such as old T-shirts. Paws of Love also produces pet treats and first-aid kits. During Orientation Week and events such as Puppies & Pizza, students, faculty, and staff have helped create items that are donated to the rescues and shelters to sell or sold to members in the community to raise money for the leashes.

Those who volunteered are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Heidi D’Ambrosio at heidi.dambrosio02@saintleo.edu.
