University Campus Faculty Development Day set for Tuesday

Saint Leo boasts a tradition of providing opportunities for faculty development in the fall and spring semesters. This fall, Faculty Development Day will be held 8:30 – 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, in Kirk Hall at University Campus.

“Strengthening our Community” is a guiding theme for the sessions. There will be exhibition booths as well as concurrent sessions to attend and topics for new and experienced faculty.

Those teaching in the University Explorations program are asked to attend the session “Updates to the University Explorations Courses” for important information.

Faculty members are asked to refer to the program at http://bit.ly/slufddfall18 to plan for the event.

Faculty Development Days are important opportunities to promote continuous growth and the building of faculty community. Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs Mary Spoto is encouraging faculty members to attend the sessions and build conversations among colleagues about teaching and learning. “As Alan Altany, who served as the director of Georgia Southern’s Center for Teaching Excellence, has stated, ‘Professional faculty development connects faculty across disciplines and career stages, serving to create a pedagogical community within the college or university,’” Spoto said.

During the academic year, there will be more opportunities for faculty development.
