A Day of Prayer and Reflection

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to “A Day of Prayer and Reflection” facilitated by Dr. Rickey Cotton from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, at the Holy Name Monastery.

The desert Ammas and Abbas (fathers and mothers) are early monastic ancestors and are a powerful source of inspiration and wisdom for those living out a contemplative relationship with God. They lived in the northern desert of Egypt but also in the deserts of Palestine and Syria beginning in the third century through the mid fifth century. They sought life in the desert as a means of giving themselves fully to God, believing that life in the desert would teach them to transcend the things of this world and allow them to follow God’s call, fully and completely, to transformation in Christ.

Along with discussions about these desert ancestors, the workshop will include periods of silent prayer, meditative readings, and times for individual reflection, meditative walks, or journaling.

If interested, participants need to RSVP by Saturday, September 15. This event costs $50 and includes lunch. Please ask about an overnight stay for Friday and/or Saturday.

For more information, please contact maryclareneu@gmail.com or (352) 588-7188.
