Tampa Education Center student named area NASW’s Social Work Student of the Year
A Saint Leo University student was named the Bachelor of Social Work Student of the Year by the Tampa Bay Unit of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
Sachia Setia, a junior, who studies at the Tampa Education Center, recently received the honor. The NASW newsletter states, “Setia takes on leadership roles with peers in the classroom setting at Saint Leo University Tampa Education Center. As an undergraduate social work student, she participated in the information session presented by the NASW FL Tampa Bay Unit Chair Sharon Barber and former BSW student Haydee Davis in the Fall 2021 Semester.
She “demonstrates an understanding of social welfare policy and child abuse and neglect. Her leadership skills are enhanced in the classroom setting via group projects and the respect of her peers.”
Her interest and efforts in social work advocacy through her work in the medical field have made a positive impact on the profession.
“She exemplifies social work values and ethics through her desire to enhance understanding of the National Association of Social Workers (2017) Code of Ethics,” the newsletter stated.
