Celebrate Saint Leo’s Esports Arena grand opening on March 10

Everyone is invited to attend the Saint Leo University Esports Arena grand opening  at noon, Wednesday, March 10. The event will take place in the courtyard between buildings 5 and 6. The brief program will include: remarks from President Jeffrey Senese; an overview from Coach Joel Madru of the competitive Esports Team; a description of the gaming machines and technology employed from a representative of the Department of  Information Technology; and an appearance by a student representative of the Esports Team.

The opening will include a tour of the Esports Arena and its 12 state-of-the-art gaming stations—plus a festive atmosphere. Visitors will enjoy music provided by a faculty DJ, a performance by the Gold Rush Dancers, and an exhibition game streamed into the Building 5 lobby.

As you may be aware, esports is a quickly growing phenomenon with the industry expected to surpass $1.5 billion by 2023. In 2019, 454 million viewers watched collegiate and pro players in a wide variety of streamed and televised games. Our Saint Leo University Esports Team is the brainchild of President Senese, and is a competitive intercollegiate team of student athletes competing in the League of Legends, Rocket League, and Smash Ultimate against other universities throughout the country. When the arena is not in use by the team, any Saint Leo student may take advantage of the incredible gaming environment.
