Celebrating Labor Day and work of Americans

When we observe the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7, this year, our celebrations may look a little different.

In 2020, businesses and organizations as well as their employees are facing difficulties this Labor Day. A recent Forbes story discusses some of the factors affecting companies and human resource staff. Those issues include: finding and hiring high-quality talent; retaining personnel and preventing burnout; and training and developing leaders.

“Organizations have faced many challenges in the current environment,” said Dr. Sheri Bias, associate professor and lead human resources faculty member. “With these challenges, there are also many opportunities! Human resources professionals in the field are poised to be a competitive advantage to organizations in bringing unique contributions to employers. On this Labor Day, let’s celebrate the lifeblood of our organizations—the people!”

The U.S. Department of Labor describes Labor Day, the first Monday in September, this way: “Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.”

Reminder: Saint Leo University will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
