Saint Leo visits Hampton VA Medical Center for MLK Day

As part of a day of service and in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., members of the Saint Leo University Virginia Peninsula education centers’ staff visited the Hampton VA Medical Center. The head of volunteer services at the Hampton VA Medical Center put our Saint Leo University staff to work setting up for bingo games, getting prizes ready for distribution, and greeting veterans as they entered the facility.

Once the veterans were assembled, the visiting Saint Leo staff and veterans added a special element to the beginning of the program to commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday–an enjoyable question-and-answer game centered on historical facts about King and his accomplishments. Prizes were awarded as veterans provided correct answers.

A competitive, high-spirited round of bingo games among the 40 veterans followed. As veterans won  games, they were awarded a prize from the Hampton VA as well as a gift bag full of Saint Leo items. All the veterans seemed to enjoy themselves and everyone left with a gift.
