Sock collection for veterans through September 29

Help the Office of Military Affairs and Services help veterans in transition. There is an urgent need for donations of new socks to be distributed to veterans in need, homeless veterans, and others at this year’s Operation Stand Down, which takes place September 29 through October 1.

Military Affairs and Services has placed several collection boxes around University Campus including at the Military Resource Center; in the Daniel A. Cannon Memorial Library; the Learning Resource Center in Kirk Hall; Student Activities Building; Student Community Center; Marion Bowman Activities Center; and Saint Edward Hall. Please donate new socks, particularly sports socks, to help those who served our country and now need our help. The collection will continue next week.

Saint Leo is a sponsor of Operation Stand Down, which is a three-day community event to provide homeless and at-risk veterans with a range of needed services. Saint Leo will have student and faculty volunteers at the event, which takes place at Veterans Memorial Park, 14333 Hicks Road, Hudson, FL 34669. Counseling services, haircuts and styling, showers, clothing, career services, and more will be offered.

For information about the sock collection, contact Pamela Martis, director of the Office of Military Affairs and Services, at pamela.martis@saintleo.edu or (352) 588-8234.
